Bearing features Fig. 3
Load distribution and stress reduction
• Low friction
The optimized roller end design and sur-
face inish on the lange (ig. 2) promote
lubricant ilm formation, resulting in lower
friction. This also reduces frictional heat
and lange wear. In addition, the bearings
can better maintain preload and run at
reduced noise levels.
• Long service life
The crowned raceway proiles of basic
design bearings and the logarithmic race- Conventional (straight)
way proiles of SKF Explorer bearings opti-
mize the load distribution along the con-
tact surfaces, reduce stress peaks at the
roller ends (ig. 3), and reduce the sensi-
tivity to misalignment and shaft delection
compared with conventional straight race-
way proiles (ig. 4).
• Enhanced operational reliability SKF crowned
Optimized surface inish on the contact
surfaces of the rollers and raceways sup-
ports the formation of a hydrodynamic
lubricant ilm.
